Para-what now??

Para-what now??

Most of us have at least heard of parabens and sulphates. Many of the beauty products we use daily contain them, from hair care to skin care and everything in between. Understanding exactly what they are will help you understand why we think our products are better off without them!

Parabens are a group of preservatives that have been used for decades. Studies show that they easily penetrate the skin and can mimic estrogen activity in the body, the same activity that is associated with certain forms of breast cancer. While there is no hard proof to link it to cancer, parabens have been found in breast tumours. We really like our ta-tas, and prefer to keep them safe from any potentially harmful chemicals!

What about sulphates? That’s the stuff that makes the suds. Sulphates are found in cleansers, shampoos, and even toothpaste. We have been conditioned to think the bubbles and suds are proof that a product is working. The more bubbles, the cleaner it is, right? Wrong. Sulphates are still a chemical, one that breaks down proteins which can have a negative effect on the body’s cell membranes. Residues from sulphates have also been found in major organs, such as the brain, lungs, and heart. And on top of that, sulphates strip your hair of natural oils, leaving it dry and frizzy. We want to help you say goodbye to bad hair days, so we said goodbye to sulphates!

Try reading the labels on your current beauty products. Sulphates are usually easily identified in the ingredients. Parabens are sneakier though, hiding under hard to pronounce scientific names like propylparaben, methylparaben, butylparaben or may even be listed as sodium benzoates. Making informed choices can help you keep these unnecessary chemicals out of your home, and your bathroom! Beck Jane West is committed to a product line free from harmful chemicals, using the best organic ingredients, to give you nothing more than peace of mind and really great hair!
